About the Artist

Eight years ago I lived with my husband and daughter in the town of Warburton in the Yarra Valley. I am also a singer/songwriter who travels around Australia performing my music, and we have since relocated to Port Douglas, and now Adelaide. As an illustrator, I go by the name Warburton Fairy, although my real name is Visnja Prtenjaca (pronounced Vish-nia Pre-ten-ya-cha!). My parents are Croatian, but I grew up admiring the work of English artists like Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac and Cicely Mary Barker. I believe the aesthetic from the golden age of illustration leads us to enjoy the beauty of nature and a more gentle, bygone world that may have once existed. Fairies in particular inspire me - I believe they embody our forgotten yearning to be in tune with nature and our desire to fly.
